FIFA 22 players accuse EA of ‘ruining’ league SBCs
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team just got its first batch of league SBCs of the year. but fans are dissapointed with the rewards.
League SBCs have been a staple of Ultimate Team in recent years, and players couldn’t wait to see how they would look in FIFA 22. However, after EA dropped the first three, fans have been left disappointed.
As much as FIFA 22 players love taking their dream team online in Division Rivals or FUT Champions, off the field they also love a good set of Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) to complete.
This is how dedicated players use up unwanted fodder in their club to get a shiny new special card or some packs to open. League SBCs in particular, used to present a real challenge and offer some truly unique rewards.
Over the last couple of years, however, the quality of league SBCs has dropped, and players feel they have finally been “ruined” in FIFA 22.
Historically, these SBCs have been large collections of smaller challenges relating to the top league in a certain country. This has tended to be the likes of the Premier League or La Liga, as well as some lesser-known divisions like the MLS or Eredivisie.
EA divided League SBCs into individual challenges, asking players to submit a full squad from each team in the league. A smaller pack reward would come with each SBC, as well as a unique special card for finishing each one.
The Ligue 1, Eredivisie, and MLS league SBCs dropped on Thursday, November 12, 2021, and the reception hasn’t been positive.
Instead of the usual 12 to 20 SBCs to complete, they were met with just four each. All of which offer slender rewards compared to previous years and no special cards.
Fans respond to FIFA 22 league SBCs
Players took to Reddit to express their disappointment with the league SBCs in FIFA 22. “They’ve managed to make them even worse this year,” said one user. “How are we taking steps back with this game every year man?”
Other fans urged EA to bring back the special cards that we had in previous years. “This is a real shame. Some of my favorite players ever were league SBC players, like Quincy Promes and Lacazette. It was actually a fun grind I prepared for in advance.”
The introduction of league SBCs was also used to give the market a boost. Prices of more obscure players from small clubs would soar because they were vital for the team-specific SBCs.
Given that market this year has been particularly flat, an incentive for players to buy different cards could have helped kickstart the in-game economy.
We’ll have to wait and see if EA takes these criticisms from the community on board. These are only the first batch of league SBCs, with the likes of the Premier League and Bundesliga still to come.
Fans will be hoping for more substantial rewards with the next lot to make the grind more worthwhile.
