Although Battlefield 2042 will be without a single-player campaign when it releases on October 22, that doesn’t mean the game will be devoid of story. DICE has been teasing the Exodus short film, which will help flesh out the world and the Battlefield 2042 destruction players can expect to see.

Destruction has always been a core element of the Battlefield series. From the early days of blowing out walls to reveal your enemies to the full skyscrapers that have completely crumbled in recent years.

If DICE’s latest teasers are anything to go by, the theme will be continuing in Battlefield 2042.

While some fans may be disappointed to hear there is no campaign mode this time around, there’s no denying that the Exodus 9-minutes long short film is a creative way to offer some context to the all-out carnage of the multiplayer.

The game will be heavily supported with post-launch content to progress the story gradually, with players already getting a look at the Battlefield 2042 destruction they can expect to see when they play.

Battlefield 2042’s setting focuses heavily on the effects of climate change and the destruction it has caused to the world over the years, and DICE’s teaser images hammer that home even more.

In possibly the most striking of the images, a city with enormous buildings can be seen to be facing the threat of a tornado.

Meanwhile, another picture from the film shows a snowy mountain base engulfed in flames, emphasizing the global chaos the change in climate has brought about.

A third and final image shows another large building that has been destroyed, although this time it appears to have been a victim of premeditated attack rather than a force of nature.

All of this sets the scene for the all-out war, which will have broken out by the time players get their hands on the game. At the point of release, the United States and Russia are at war in a world that has been nearly decimated with plenty of Battlefield 2042 destruction to witness.

Specialists from fallen nations are joining the fight as Non-Patriated, or No-Pat, soldiers.

In order to see exactly how the world falls apart so drastically, players will have to catch the Exodus short film when it lands on Battlefield’s YouTube channel on August 12, 2021, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST.

Battlefield 2042 launches on October 22, but fans can gain early access by signing up for EA Play.
