Fans of the Rebirth Island map in Warzone might be shocked to discover just how much of a carbon-copy the chaotic battleground is to real-life Alcatraz.

Since Rebirth Island made its Warzone debut on December 16, 2020, players have enjoyed the close-quarters version of Call of Duty’s battle royale. The map was only meant to be a temporary inclusion as an ode to Blackout’s Alcatraz map but its popularity has made it a Warzone mainstay since its inception.

Thanks to a new comparison video, fans of the map can appreciate just how accurate the Call of Duty devs were when recreating real-life Alcatraz.

For those who may be wondering, Alcatraz is a real-life island in San Francisco, California in which a lighthouse, military base, and Federal Penitentiary can all be found. The island was notorious for its cold waters and strong currents that made escape impossible.

Naturally, these conditions make for a fantastic Call of Duty battle royale map, and thanks to a new video, players can witness just how well the real-life location translates to an in-game battleground.

The video posted to the Warzone subreddit by yoursofunny is just over four minutes long and offers a shot-by-shot comparison of Rebirth Island’s points of interest including Prison Block, Harbor, and Factory.

It’s truly astonishing to witness the attention to detail that contributed to Rebirth Island’s final design. The map is a one-for-one recreation down to the positioning of staircases and the length of hallways.

Given the success of Rebirth Island, it’s no surprise that players voice their frustration when the map is removed from the active playlist options. In fact, the map is so well-like that players have even offered a similar island as the real-life inspiration for a sequel to Rebirth Island.
