Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 players are becoming increasingly freaked out by a spooky “breathing” sound playing while on the menus.

Audio has been a major talking point ever since Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 launched. The communty had grown frustrated with how difficult it can be to hear footsteps and pinpoint nearby enemies.

To combat this, many will abuse secret settings to make everything clearer, and crank their volume up in their headphones to ensure they never miss a step.

Now, players with their audio turned up have noticed the eerie sound of someone breathing in the Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 lobby.

Reddit user ‘TmAimOND’ was among the first to post about the bizarre noise, and urged the devs to remove it as soon as possible.

“Lately in the weapons menu I’ve had moments when I thought I could hear something, but didn’t know what it was,” said the OP. “When I turned the volume way up on an otherwise quiet menu, there was the sound of some guy breathing heavily.

“It’s super creepy, especially late at night when it’s really quiet, to hear what sounds like some guy breathing right behind you.”

Later, ‘ASBiggestFan’ posted a video of the sound when the rest of the menu audio is turned down, allowing us to hear it clearly.

Many other players replied claiming to have encountered the ghostly issue too, as it seems to have been introduced as part of the Season 2 Reloaded update.

“Can confirm I heard this too a few nights ago, checked that nobody in my lobby had a mic, but they were all muted,” said one response.

While there were plenty of users who reported hearing the breathing, no one could offer a definitive answer on what could be causing it.

Some speculated it could be the sound effect of your Operator after sprinting or holding their breath after sniping, which is now accidentally playing before a match has started. Others joked that the “sounds not coming from in the game” at all.

The devs are yet to officially confirm if this is an audio bug or if a fix is on the way, but it’s safe to say that it’s already managed to spook the players that have heard it.
