Just days after Infinity Ward and Raven Software confirmed Warzone 2 was in development, CoD leakers have dropped some teasers that claim it will be set in the desert.
Nobody could have predicted how big Warzone would become when it first dropped back in March 2020. Since then, the game has dominated the battle royale genre, despite the “embarrassing” performance issues that have affected the game in recent years.
On a huge day of Call of Duty news, Infinity Ward and Raven Software announced on February 11 that a “new Warzone experience” would launch alongside the now-confirmed Modern Warfare 2. Unfortunately, the devs didn’t give us any information about a possible release date, or when it is set.
However, a number of Call of Duty insiders have started to drop teases about where the map could be set. While Verdansk was a city and Caldera is a jungle, these leakers claim we’re heading to the desert next.
Warzone 2 in Atacama Desert
According to leaker TheGhostofHope, things he has seen “behind-the-scenes” lead him to think that the Warzone 2 map may “potentially take place in the Atacama Desert.”
“This is not confirmed by me,” he wrote. “[This] is only speculation based on behind-the-scenes info.”
The Atacama Desert is found in Chile, South America, which is sparsely populated with towns along the coast. There are also abandoned nitrate mining towns which would make for perfect POIs across this possible map.
TheGhostofHope wasn’t alone in hinting at a desert map. In a tweet on February 13, Hydra9114 tweeted a GIF of a soldier walking through a sandy area, with the caption: “Sand. #WZ2.”
When pressed by a CoD fan, the leaker simply replied: “Don’t get angry with me, you know I can’t talk much.”
It’s important to remember that these are unconfirmed claims from leakers, which means they could end up being incorrect. While these give us an idea of what may come, it’s worth taking these leaks with a pinch of salt.
Unfortunately, we won’t definitively know where this map is until it’s officially announced, which is unlikely to be until the summer at the earliest.
There’s still plenty to look forward to in the original Warzone though, with Raven Software dropping 30 Quality of Life improvements in Season 2.
