Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will arrive in 2023, and as legal proceedings rage on, Microsoft said they expect CoD Mobile to be “phased out” in favor of Warzone Mobile.

Following the massive success of both Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile, it was only a matter of time before CoD’s hit battle royale made its way to mobile devices. Although live in some regions already, Warzone Mobile will fully release in 2023.

With its progression tied to Modern Warfare 2 and its battle royale, Warzone Mobile could spell bad news for Call of Duty Mobile fans — according to Microsoft at least.

Microsoft are still in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, CoD’s publisher, but there are still a few legal hoops they have to jump through before the deal can close.

In Microsoft’s response to the UK government’s Competition and Markets Authority, the Xbox company claimed that “CoD: Mobile is expected to be phased out over time (outside of China) with the launch of Warzone Mobile.”

Although Activision haven’t publicly discussed Call of Duty: Mobile’s future once Warzone Mobile arrives, if Microsoft gets full control of Activision Blizzard then this could become a reality.

Warzone Mobile will feature a traditional multiplayer mode though, with players able to play 6v6 Team Deathmatch and Domination on Modern Warfare 2019’s Scrapyard and Superstore maps.

More maps could arrive, but it still wouldn’t compare to CoD Mobile’s wealth of classic maps, modes, and weapons that have steadily arrived since its 2019 launch.

Microsoft are still receiving pushback from Sony who are trying to stop the deal, and the UK Competition and Markets Authority will provide its decision on April 25, 2023.

Also, in the same document, Microsoft remained adamant that they can bring Call of Duty to the Nintendo Switch, stating that Warzone runs on hardware older than the Switch.
