Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 1’s mid-season update has brought the brand-new Welgun SMG. This is already proving to be an incredibly powerful choice, so here are all of the attachments, Perks, and equipment you need to make the best Welgun loadout.

SMGs quickly became one of the most powerful weapon categories in Call of Duty: Vanguard and the new Welgun is set to become the best yet.

Arriving in Vanguard Season 1’s mid-season update, the Welgun is a “Heavy full-auto SMG with lethality and range for short to medium-range engagements.” With the right attachments, it can tear through enemies in only a couple of shots, so will be the perfect addition to many loadouts.

Here’s everything you need to create the best Welgun loadout in Vanguard.

Best Vanguard Welgun loadout attachments

Vanguard Wellgun loadout attachments
  • Muzzle: Recoil Booster
  • Barrel: 320MM SA Shrouded
  • Optic: Slate Reflector
  • Stock: Gawain Skeletal
  • Underbarrel: M1941 Hand Stop
  • Magazine: .45 58 Round Mags
  • Ammo Type: Lengthened
  • Rear Grip: Fabric Grip
  • Proficiency: Frenzy
  • Kit: On-Hand / Surplus

What makes the Welgun so powerful in Vanguard is its unique 320MM SA Shrouded Barrel. Not only does this make it laser-accurate, but it also gives a “Larger One-Hit-Kill Area.”

Next, you want attachments that both boost the Welgun’s mobility and range. First, we’ve added the Recoil Booster to increase the fire rate, the .45 58 Round Mags and Lengethened Ammo increase its accuracy, range, and damage, and the M1941 Hand Stop to keep it under control.

To then make sure you’re speedy enough to finesse opponents, the Gawain Skeletal Stock and Fabric Grip are perfect. The Optic is down to personal preference but we’re fans of the Slate Reflector.

And finally, the Frenzy Proficiency ensures you start healing immediately after each kill, and the On-Hand Kit allows you to throw equipment incredibly fast.

We also recommend you use the Surplus Kit until you fully level the Welgun, as this gives you an incredible XP boost.

Best Perks & equipment to use with Vanguard Welgun

Forward Intel Perk in CoD Vanguard
  • Perk 1: Dauntless
  • Perk 2: Forward Intel
  • Perk 3: Scavenger
  • Lethal: MK2 Frag Grenade
  • Tactical: No 69 Stun Grenade
  • Field Upgrade: Dead Silence

The Dauntless Perk was buffed in Vanguard’s mid-season update, with it now giving immunity to fire and burning effects from “Incendiary Rounds, Flamenaut, and lingering fire on the ground.” With how frustrating fire can be in Vanguard, it’s become a standout choice.

Next, Forward Intel tells you exactly where the enemy team is spawning, and Scavenger allows you to pick up ammo from dead bodies.

For equipment, the MK2 Frag Grenade is perfect for clearing out small rooms, and the No 69 Stun Grenade gives you a huge advantage over your opponents. And finally, Dead Silence allows you to silently flank the enemy, which is where the Welgun will truly shine.

How to unlock Welgun in Vanguard

Vanguard players need to complete an in-game challenge to unlock the Welgun, but you shouldn’t have much trouble.

Here’s how to unlock the Welgun in Vanguard multiplayer and Zombies:

  • Get 10 Kills with an SMG while Aiming Down Sights in a single match 15 times.
  • In Zombies, get 5 rapid Critical Kills with an SMG during 50 different Portal Objectives.

We recommend you play the full match out, as leaving early can cause the challenge progress to not track properly.

Best alternatives to Vanguard’s Welgun

There are plenty of other viable SMGs in Call of Duty: Vanguard, with the classic MP-40 still being an excellent all-rounder. Or, you could opt for the Type 100 which takes advantage of a much higher fire rate.
