The release of Battlefield 2042 is right around the corner, but there are still some concerns for fans. Most recently, the “pathetic” lack of weapons in the game at launch has come under fire.
Now, Battlefield fans have slammed the unusually low number of weapons set to feature in 2042 at launch.
Away from the Portal mode, Xbox players who managed to access the game early found that the core Battlefield 2042 will launch with just 22 weapons, broken up into no more than four per category.
Responding to a tweet from Bravo INTEL, many fans responded expressing their anger at the meager selection.
“That’s beyond pathetic. Even BF1 had more guns at launch and that game had less than all the others,” said one user. “This is literally the smallest launch pool of weapons we’ve ever had.”
Others also pointed at the recently released Call of Duty: Vanguard, calling it a “joke” that CoD could launch with 38 guns as well as Gunsmith when Battlefield only managed 22.
Players also argued that DICE could be relying too heavily on Battlefield Portal for its launch content, as this will feature weapons and maps from past games in the series.
“I really don’t understand why anyone would want to play all-out Warfare at this point,” stated one fan. “Portal has like 3 or 4 times the content, why would anyone bother playing a mode with way less content?”
“Portal does not exist to save the game but to make it better,” replied another. “Plus Portal guns are just guns from previous BFs so nothing new there.”
Battlefield 2042 is set to receive plenty of support post-launch, so we’ll have to wait and see if many new weapons come to the core game in the weeks after release.
Fans will be hoping that DICE increase the selection to keep up with rival shooters Vanguard and Halo Infinite.
