Baldur’s Gate 3 players have discovered a new achievement hidden in the GOG version which suggests that Larian might be adding the incredibly difficult Honour mode from Divinity: Original Sin II.

There are three difficulty settings in Baldur’s Gate 3 — Explorer, Balanced, and Tactician. Explorer, the easy mode, is for you if you’re new or unfamiliar with D&D 5E rules. Meanwhile, Balanced, as the name suggests, is the default experience that closely follows D&D 5E. On the other hand, Tactician is a hard mode that expects you to make the most of what you have.

This makes Baldur’s Gate 3 slightly more difficult compared to Larian’s last RPG, Divinity: Original Sin II (DOS2), which also had a Story mode for much easier gameplay. However, DOS2 also had another setting for making the game much harder — Honour mode.

Now, A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has discovered that a new achievement has been added to the game’s GOG version. This achievement, called “Foehammer,” is unlocked after completing Honour mode, which is currently unavailable in the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players frequently turn to save scumming as the game’s random dice rolls often raise the difficulty. However, with Honour mode, save scumming won’t protect you. If your party perishes in Honour mode, your save game is deleted. It’s basically Larian’s version of the Ironman mode found in many other games.

As one user pointed out, in Honour mode, the game “autosaves when a character dies.” In DOS2, you choose Honour mode after selecting your difficulty, so you can have it even in the easiest mode. Regardless of difficulty, it’s still extremely challenging because you can lose all your progress on a game over.

Many Baldur’s Gate 3 completionists were disappointed to see the new achievement, however. “Got my last missing achievement, went into the GOG client to finally celebrate my 100%, just to see this new achivement had popped up, leaving me at 98% again,” explained a player.
