Baldur’s Gate 3 players call for major change to “anti-climactic” final battle

Baldur’s Gate 3 players find it bizarre that you get a camp full of companions to join your fight against the Absolute, but you can only have three of them at the final battle.

Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to recruit several memorable characters throughout your journey across the Sword Coast. However, you can only travel and complete quests with three of them while the others remain resting at your camp.

Now, a large number of players believe this makes no sense from a story perspective and feels “anti-climactic.” They all joined up in your fight against the Absolute but when the final battle comes up and they have the opportunity to save the world, they just sit there. Redditor ‘timb0nic’ discussed this in the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, where their post got over 6,800 upvotes.

One user added that even if the party members don’t join in your fight, there should be a cutscene “showing that the companions who aren’t in your party are fighting the Absolute’s forces elsewhere in the city or something, just to explain where they are.”

Others mentioned Mass Effect and Dragon Age, two BioWare games that Baldur’s Gate 3 is often compared to by fans. One user suggested a Mass Effect-like “suicide mission thing where they get sent to do other things as you progress.” Meanwhile, another user recommended a mission similar to ‘The Battle of Denerim,’ the final quest in Dragon Age.

“It would have been amazing to have split the forces with some dialogue and have someone take charge of the rest of your companions,” they added. Your camp members in Baldur’s Gate 3 seem to be rarely involved in any fight, even when the camp is attacked, as one player mentioned.

Another Baldur’s Gate 3 player mentioned that they use the Party Limit Begone mod to get over this limitation. This mod allows you to bring up to 15 companions in single-player and 7 other players in co-op mode.

The Baldur’s Gate 3 community often has a lot to share regarding the game. For instance, check out how one player got the worst outcome for every companion in a single, brutal playthrough, or another who got roasted for breaking their game after somehow skipping a major fight.
