The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is looking to build on what made Breath of the Wild a success. The new title combines features from BOTW as well as introduces new mechanics. Players are wondering if Shrines are a part of Tears of the Kingdom, so let’s find out.

Shrines were an integral part of Breath of the Wild and fans of the franchise were desperate to find out if they are back in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

In case you missed the Tears of the Kingdom predecessor, Shrines are scattered across Hyrule and they present players with puzzles to solve. The Zelda franchise is synonymous with dungeons, and Shrines offered players various puzzle rooms.

Whether you loved or hated grinding through Shrines, you’ll want to know if they’re making an appearance in Tears of the Kingdom.

Shrines are back as a gameplay feature in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Previously, some Zelda fans spotted what looked to be Shrine icons on the Tears of the Kingdom map shown in a March 28 gameplay reveal trailer. Now that the game is officially out, we can confirm they were right.

There are a total of 152 Shrines in Tears of the Kingdom, with 120 on the surface of Hyrule and an additional 32 located in the Sky Islands.

Furthermore, Shrines work in a similar way that they did in Breath of the Wild. After players complete a challenge or solve a puzzle, they’ll get a Blessing of the Light.

Collecting four of those and interacting with a Goddess Statue allows players to upgrade their Health or Stamina. Additionally, players can use Shrines as fast-travel locations once they activate them.
