A new season of Apex Legends means balance changes, and as for Season 12, the devs clearly felt Caustic needed a big nerf.

With Apex Legends Season 12 releasing soon, players finally got some information regarding the upcoming changes in the patch notes.

As well as new Legend Mad Maggie’s abilities, a brand new Hop-Up, and changes to Care Package and Replicator weapons, there are also some big changes coming for Legends.

One of these changes is a nerf to Caustic, which could be detrimental to the Legend’s effectiveness.

The Season 12 update will be nerfing Caustic’s Gas Traps, as the early patch notes revealed the following:

  • Caustic
    • Players will now be able to destroy Caustic’s Gas Traps even after they have been triggered. Gas will remain for a short period after the trap has been destroyed.

This nerf could be huge in terms of reducing Caustic’s power, as his Gas Traps are so effective at holding down areas, crowd control, and preventing pushes.

Now that players will be able to break the trap by shooting the bottom part even after they have been triggered, it means they may not be as effective at doing this defensive job.

The community has been reacting to the change under a recent Reddit post, with the overwhelming view being that the nerf is pretty harsh. One comment even read: “Caustic is dead now.”

This isn’t the first time Caustic has been nerfed, as in Season 9 his Gas damage was reduced so much that it threw him out of the meta. It seems this nerf could potentially do the same in Season 12, and see Caustic take a backseat while other defensive Legends thrive.

Will have to wait and see just how far this nerf will affect the Legend in terms of the meta, but it certainly seems like a huge nerf.
