Apex Legends players divided over another “pay to win” Flatline skin
Respawn Entertainment have added the ‘Teal Zeal’ Flatline skin in the monthly store, and this has led to Apex Legends players giving a variety of opinions on the “pay to win” skin.
Apex Legends features plenty of powerful weapons that suit a variety of different combat situations, and the Flatline is a reliable Assault Rifle that can dish out a ton of pain at medium range.
Now, a Flatline skin from Season 5 is available to unlock in the game’s monthly store, and it has proven to be extremely controversial. Many in the community are giving their thoughts on the skin.
Apex Legends pro ‘C9 PVPX’ shared an image of the Teal Zeal skin on Twitter and described it as “pay to win” because of one element. The skin’s iron sight is significantly less bulky than the one on the default weapon.
Since the iron sight takes up less space on the screen, C9 PVPX feels that the Teal Zeal skin makes it easier to aim with it. They then emphasized this difference by posting images of the gun with and without the skin.
The replies to this were filled with users offering their own differing opinions on the return of this skin. A few other Apex Legends players agreed with the original tweet’s sentiment that the skin is pay to win.
One user wrote: “First of all the new skin takes up less of your screen in terms of square inches. But more importantly, there is a big space between iron sights where you can see more. The other one blocks vision way more. This is a huge factor.”

Other users argued that having a smaller iron sight isn’t enough to make the skin pay to win since they feel that there are other factors that can affect how effective the weapon is in gunfights.
When asked if the iron sights make the skin pay to win, another player replied: “It isn’t. It’s purely for farming impressions. Nobody wins fights because they use a certain iron sight.”

This is not the first time a weapon skin has been called “pay to win” as Respawn previously changed a controversial Flatline skin known as ‘Heat Sink.’ They did this because of the skin’s iron sights being different from those of the default gun.
As a result of these different points of view, the Apex Legends community is divided about the Teal Zeal skin’s return. It will remain available for $13 in the Apex Legends store throughout the month.
