In response to a pro Apex Legends player, a dev at Respawn Entertainment has revealed that changes are coming to skill-based matchmaking in the battle royale.

Apex Legends is currently suffering from a notable dip in their viewership after Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 and Warzone 2 have taken the first-person shooter scene by storm since releasing on November 16.

Despite Apex Legends Season 15 providing a new Legend and map, players are still frustrated with the skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in the battle royale, especially when it comes to the Ranked Leagues.

Fortunately for those who have been unhappy with SBMM, one of Respawn Entertainment’s developers for Apex Legends has revealed that there are plans to bring in changes.

After pro players Snip3down and Zachmazer had a discussion about the “insane MMR” in Apex Legends on Twitter, putting the players in a “bad mood,” Technical Director for Apex Legends Samy Duc responded.

In the dev’s response, they claim that “SBMM will change,” while also explaining how the system currently works. At the moment, the matchmaking is “based on the highest (level) player in the group,” however, they do state that this will “most likely mutate to something else” in “mid december / new year.”

This is great news to those having issues with the skill-based matchmaking, especially those who are at a higher level with the friends they want to play with.

Clearly, the community appreciates the dev’s comments, with Snip3down responding by saying “this is actually such a promising and transparent reply.”

More on how the devs plan to change the SBMM system in Apex Legends will come “in the new year,” as Respawn Entertainment continues to acknowledge issues and work on them.
